Falling in & out of love with music

Music has been life since I was a toddler. Singing for candy and coins, there was this spark at such a young age. Me and my mom would just be around the house singing and getting on everybody’s nerves! She has such a loud voice that can be heard from miles away and that’s who I believe I get it from. Unfortunately, I think I inherited her shyness too because as I got older, I got more and more shy, even though I would continue to sing in the school choir and involve myself in band and theatre. Maybe it was just the daily pressures of life but singing became less of a priority in my life.

I still continued to listen to music though. It became a way for me to either express or release emotions. I would always walk around with my headphones in my ear blasting my favorite songs. I would use it to drown out my mother when she was fussing at us. She eventually caught on and made me stop! 🙁 I would then just take out my headphones and just sing LOUDER! 😉

When at school, people would say they were trying to flag me down, as I was walking on campus, but I already needed glasses, that I refused to wear, and was just lost in the music, in my own little world. So, NO I was not trying to be rude to y’all! I was just lost in the sounds, creating my own little reality! LOL

Point is: MUSIC IS LIFE!! Nawl just playing. I gotta catch myself because GOD is life but music is a big part of mine and so many others. It’s hard to go a day without listening to it as it has become like my therapy.

Or at least it was…

I remember I couldn’t workout without having my favorite playlist or song on but I don’t know what happened recently, but, when I workout, I don’t feel the need to try to find a favorite song to play, in order to hype myself up or get me through the workout. I just workout with whatever they have playing if anything at all. Which is actually a good thing because I could waste a loooot of time trying to find the right song for my current mood.

Believe it or not but I actually stopped listening to it (at least a certain genre) for a while, after 2020, after there was so much lost in the world and in my world. Who would have thought. You would think that music would help me during that time but it just made me think too much and everything just seemed so LOUD. So, instead of music, I turned to other forms of entertainment to help with the grief: upcoming comics on YouTube and TV on streaming platforms. I believe I probably watched every movie and show on Netflix! LOL SMH

But…somehow, Youtube brought me back to music.

I started catching up on ALL of the songs I missed out on and I was back in love, again.

But … music has recently become so political. I don’t know if its because prior to 2020, I was not really on the news sites and blogs about the music industry and artist, so, unless it was something MAJOR, I didn’t know much about the artist and the industry, in general.

I believe with the rise of people being online after 2020, and there being so many people flooding our timelines with their opinions or giving actual factual (lol) information about these artist and this industry, I became so overwhelmed with ALL the noise. (Part of the reason why I wanted to start a blog) I wanted to give my unbiased opinion and focus on the art but, honestly, it is very difficult.

With so much noise about what these celebrities do behind closed doors and being pressured to view these things on a daily basis with the social media new feeds, it’s hard to be in love with music like I use to be growing up. Like, I can look past people’s opinions on what they believe etc but Im talking about the things that are done illegally that hurts and destroys innocent individuals. How are we supposed to look past that!?

But .. one of my goals, with this blog, is to do just that, to look past the artist and the industry and get lost in the lyrics and sound, again!

Now, some of these artist be having some cray cray lyrics sooo that’s on them at that point! 🙂

TTYL and Happy Valentine’ s Day!
